- EUROPEAN OAK WINE BARRELS -
At East Coast Wood Barrels we specialize in the production of wine barrels manufactured using Romanian White Oak wood varieties, Quercus Petraea and Quercus Robur.
Quercus Petraea and Quercus Robur are the same species of tree which grow throughout France and are used in the production of the infamous and highly regarded French Wine Barrel. Interestingly enough, the French and Romanian Forests reside on the same geographical parallel rendering the forests with nearly identical ecosystems. Thus, Romanian Oak carries similar properties as French Oak and produces a barrel of nearly identical superiority. We season (store outside where the wood is exposed to the natural elements) our Romanian Oak in Romania for a period of 24 months. The material is then shipped to New York where it will continue to to season in our storage yard for another 12 months.
We take pride in the care and undivided attention put into the production of every barrel:
1) Stave's are individually hand selected
2) Fire-bending method for shaping the barrel
3) Lower-heat and longer wood burning fire to give the barrel a deeper toast (this results in a lesser likelihood of blistering occurring in the barrels interior).
