EXCEPTIONALLY CRAFTED WINE AND SPIRIT BARRELS IS WHAT WE DO.

Continuing a proud family coopering tradition, East Coast Wood Barrels offers both traditional wood and wood-stainless (Hybrid) barrels in a variety of volumes.

HISTORY

Gheorghe Voicu’s story (East Coast Wood Barrel’s US Founder and Master Cooper) is an American story. Growing up on his family’s vineyard in Romania, George developed his appreciation for the art and science of wine and brandy making, along with the skillsets to craft their estate-made kegs and vats. He often reminisces about working side-by-side with his father in their estate’s cooperage, where his grandfather, Marin, hinted that young George might set his sights past the vineyard.   According to George, continuing his family’s profession was a logical choice; however, the economic and political realities of his country at that time turned his grandfather’s suggestion into a necessity. To avoid the pitfall of Communism, George left Romania at the age of 28, a national Judo champion, and emigrated to the United States to pursue his version of the American Dream. Opportunity knocked on George's door, yet it opened by another of his strengths - engineering. Thus, his youthful desire to support the vineyard was set aside once again as George started a family and grew his electrical engineering business into the thriving company it is today – now in the capable hands of his eldest daughter. In 2010 George finally heeded that familiar call from the barrels, first only as a hobby, but later encouraged by his many winemaking friends on Long Island, he fully embraced a childhood passion with a new endeavor - East Coast Wood Barrels.
